School Uniform
SCHOOL UNIFORM
To help give the children at St. Peter’s a strong sense of identity and to strengthen our team ethos, all children should wear our school uniform. We encourage them to maintain an acceptable standard of clean and tidy dress in school. The uniform is readily available online.
A range of secondhand uniform is also available free of charge via the office.
Our uniform consists of:
- St. Peter's Infant School burgundy sweatshirt embroidered with the school logo (optional and available online – see school website for details) or burgundy / red sweatshirt or cardigan (available at large supermarkets);
- grey trousers, skirt, pinafore or shorts;
- white polo shirt (school logo is optional and available online – see school website for details);
- white or grey socks preferably (sockless feet to be saved for weekends and out-of-school hours).
- optional Summer wear - red and white checked Summer dress.
Footwear
- Low-heeled black shoes suitable for active play - we find that buckles or Velcro are easier for children to manage if they are unable to tie laces as yet;
- Flat sandals suitable for active play may be worn in the warmer weather and are to be worn with socks. We have to make health and safety a priority and flip-flop type and open-backed footwear is inappropriate for the activities that the children carry out through the day. Equally, gladiator-style sandals should not be worn.
Outdoor Clothing
Children should bring a coat to school each day, apart from during the hotter weather.
P.E. and Games Kit
Shorts, T-shirt and Plimsolls for outside and bare feet for indoors. For health and safety reasons, it is essential that children are dressed appropriately for any physical activity though footwear and clothing may vary to reflect the activity. Reception children will be informed by their teachers what level of kit is required. It should be kept in a named drawstring shoe bag. (Strong burgundy kit bags, with the school logo, are available for a small price, from the school office). The kit should be kept in school and taken home at the end of term to be washed. Parents will be informed if their child does not have their PE kit in school. They will be unable to participate in PE lessons until a PE kit is provided. All items of PE clothing and drawstring bag should be identified with the child’s name.
Jewellery
On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery in our school. The exceptions to this rule are stud ear-rings in pierced ears and small objects of religious significance. If a child needs to wear a piece of jewellery for medical or religious reasons, the parent(s) should make the Headteacher and Class Teacher aware. Such items should be removed or covered up during physical activity, or not worn them to school that day so as no injury is caused by them. In our Reception classes, unless your child has to wear jewellery for cultural reasons, or unless they have recently pierced ears, we would ask that they do not wear jewellery. Earrings can be easily caught and therefore present as a health and safety hazard especially when the children are using the outdoor area.
Fashion Items/Other
Children come to school to learn. We believe that fashion items are best kept for home, and for reasons such as health, safety and inclusion, other than stud earrings and watches (where appropriate and a child can read the time), fashion accessories such as make-up, nail polish, hair gel, jewellery should not be worn. Appropriate caps or ‘legionnaire’ style sunhats should be worn outside during sunny weather. These are available from the school office. It is advisable for long hair to be tied back neatly using bands or ‘scrunchies’. This is not only for reasons of smartness and appearance, but also for health and safety.
Bags
Parents are encouraged to purchase a school bag for carrying their reading books, letters and homework though similar bags from pre-schools may be used instead. We discourage rucksacks and large bags being used and brought into school as space is very limited.
School uniform must now be purchased on-line, please click on the link which will take you to the School Trends website. All purchases can be delivered to the school free of charge. We have a small stock of school sweatshirts and polo shirts that can be purchased from the school office but once these have gone we will not be ordering anymore in. We also hold a small stock of good quality second hand uniform.
In addition, we have a stock of Baseball and Legionnaire caps with the school name on them, book bags and PE drawstring bags which can be purchased from the school office. The former are particularly useful as they are large enough to hold reading books and lunch boxes and are small enough to fit into the limited space available.
Please ensure that all of your child’s property is labelled as it is very difficult to reunite children with their belongings when there are so many similar items in school.
