Sports Premium at St Peter's Infants
For the past six years, the Government has provided schools with an annual and substantial school sport funding. This funding is jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport directly to schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. This year, we are receving £16,465.
The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
Purpose of Funding
Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving the provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Possible uses of the funding include:
- Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE with the purpose of upskilling them
- Provision of new or additional PE-related clubs
- Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
- Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
- Running / particiapting in sport competitions, or increasing participation in the School Games
- Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport
- Providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs and holiday clubs
- Purchasing resources to support and promote physical activity within school
How will we be spending the sports funding and who will benefit?
The money should be used to meet the following 5 objectives and have an impact on the pupils at St Peter's Infants:
- The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
- The profile of sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
- Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
- Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
- Increased participation in competitive sport
